The most-used deadline nobody sets
Rent, invoices, targets, subscriptions, notice periods and payslips all attach themselves to the end of the month, which makes it the single most common deadline in most people's lives — and the one nobody ever actually writes down, because it feels like it does not need writing down. It always does, around the 27th.
Months are not the same length
This is why the answer is worth checking rather than estimating. A countdown that assumes thirty days is wrong seven months a year, and February is out by two or three. The counter above reads the real length of the month you are in, so the number is right in February as well as in July.
What people are usually counting to
Rarely the date itself. It is nearly always a thing due on it — and that thing usually needs starting several days before the deadline it is attached to. A month-end countdown is at its most useful in the middle of the month, which is exactly when nobody looks at one.
