How many days until Black Friday?

Black Friday falls on .

Counted in your own time zone, .

Black Friday is the day after the fourth Thursday in November, so its date moves each year. The counter above works it out rather than assuming one.

A date defined by another date

Black Friday has no date of its own. It is defined as the day after US Thanksgiving, which is itself the fourth Thursday in November — so it lands somewhere between the 23rd and the 29th depending on the year. Any countdown that hardcodes a date will be wrong in most years.

The day stopped being a day

The name once described a single Friday of queues outside shops. It now covers most of November, with deals opening weeks early and running through Cyber Monday. The useful thing to count down to is therefore rarely the Friday itself — it is the point at which the thing you are actually waiting for gets discounted, which is usually earlier.

Counting down to a purchase

This is one of the few countdowns with a genuinely rational use. If you know something is coming and you know roughly when it drops, waiting is worth real money — and a date sitting on your Lock Screen is far harder to forget than a note that you meant to wait.
